Humanity Over Vanity
Heavy matting of your dogs coat will result in a shave down. While it is fun to have a fluffy pup, matting causes significant pain for dogs and can lead to sores, infection, and even tissue damage. With a shave down, your dog will have a comfortable fresh start. I will work with you to make a plan on how to keep your dogs coat healthy as it grows back out so that we can work towards the haircut of your dreams!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a full haircut and a deshedding haircut?
Full haircuts are for single-coated or curly breeds (such as Poodles or Shih Tzus - see full list above). These breeds don't shed and thus require regular haircuts to remain comfortable just like humans!
A deshedding haircut is for double-coated breeds (such as Golden Retrievers, Huskies and German Shepherds - see full list above) that shed their undercoat seasonally. A deshedding haircut allows these breeds to remain cool in the summer without altering their natural coat protection.
When should I first have my puppy groomed?
Your puppies first grooming appointment should happen around 12 weeks of age, typically after their second round of core vaccinations. Getting your puppy used to the grooming process at a young age is important for building trust and preventing grooming anxiety in the future.
How often should my dog be groomed?
This will depend on your dogs breed and coat type. For dogs with thick undercoats, such as huskies, it’s best to have them groomed seasonally. For dogs with curly or long coats, such as poodles and rough collies, it is best to have them groomed every 4-8 weeks to prevent matting and knotting of the hair. Navy will help your dog get on a grooming schedule that best suits their needs!
How Long will the Appointment Take?
Most full service grooms are completed in 2-3 hours, but could be more or less depending on the size, breed, coat condition, and behavior of your dog. Some furry friends need more time and patience than others, and Navy focuses on working at an appropriate pace for each individual dog.
What is your late policy?
Life happens and that’s okay! But, because The Lucky Mutt is a one on one salon, please try to be on time so your appointment doesn’t overlap with the dog coming in after yours. After 20 minutes, a late fee of $15 will be added to your total. After 30 minutes, your appointment will need to be rescheduled. Please also schedule your dog at a time where you will be able to pick him/her up promptly after their groom is complete.
